POPIA & Your Rights

Last updated 9 September 2026.

This page explains how Did You Know Ministries complies with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and the specific rights it gives you over your information. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

Responsible party

Did You Know Ministries is the responsible party for the personal information collected through this website. Did You Know Ministries is not yet a registered NPO — donations and support go directly toward placing Bibles and running the ministry's day-to-day work.

Information Officer

August Jackson is the Information Officer for Did You Know Ministries, responsible for POPIA compliance and for handling any requests or concerns about your personal information.

WhatsApp: +27 68 563 1148
Email: didyouknowministries@gmail.com

Special personal information

POPIA classifies religious belief, and certain health information, as "special personal information" requiring extra care. Prayer requests submitted through this platform often contain both. Our lawful basis for processing this is your own explicit consent — given when you submit a prayer request or register an account — and it is processed only for the purpose you gave it for (being prayed for), never for any other purpose, and never shared outside the ministry team and the specific person(s) you sent it to.

Your rights under POPIA

  • Access — you can ask what personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction — you can ask us to correct inaccurate information.
  • Deletion — you can ask us to delete your account and associated data.
  • Objection — you can object to a specific use of your information (for example, withdrawing consent for your prayer request to remain visible to a Prayer Warrior).
  • Withdraw consent — at any time, without affecting anything already done based on consent given before the withdrawal.

To exercise any of these, use our data request page, or contact the Information Officer directly using the details above. We aim to respond within a reasonable time, in line with POPIA's requirements.

Data retention — how long we keep things

We keep a prayer request for 12 months after it's been prayed for, and review inactive accounts after 24 months of no activity. Until then, or at any point before, you can ask us to delete your data directly via this page.

Complaints

If you believe we have not handled your information properly, you can raise it with our Information Officer first, or lodge a complaint directly with South Africa's Information Regulator:
